The Reinstating Call- A Poem By Peerzada Saadia

After the sun hides below the horizon
Unable to look at the blood, the bullets,
the dirt and the stones, all bent together,
It is a distant cry of Allah-u-Akbar that sounds like hope.
After the trees stop moving
in step with the wind,
Stopping their sighs
In wake of the mourning,
it is a call to azan that silences fears.
After all is said and done
and the air feels metallic
with the taint of blood and tear-gas,
it is the resonating voice inside,
that propels us forward
charged with
the reverberating thrum of Azadi.
